Anniversaries!

When we were first married, I wanted to reread our vows together and all things romantic every single anniversary. I remember one anniversary in London, I got all dolled up, the babysitter was waiting with me at our home, and he wasn’t home. Had he forgotten? I could feel my irritation growing and wondered if I should send the babysitter home. No, he eventually showed up, with a gorgeous old pine army box (in the back of the van) that he had found in an antique shop in London for me. Was it worth waiting for him? Absolutely. He was thinking of me the whole time.

Now I’m a bit more chill about our anniversaries and have no expectations except the belief that God is good, and I celebrate the knowledge that we can trust Him. I also celebrate the history that Wyatt and I have shared together and give thanks to God for His faithfulness through the easy, the fun, the challenges and the struggle. We’ve served in ministry together, raised a family together, nursed each other, lived in 3 countries, made 7 houses home, have been a part of 7 church families, and are now grandparents together. Life on this earth is an adventure and walking with our great God is the best adventure ever!

On one anniversary, Wyatt brought me home a tiny little hand painted ceramic jewel holder that says, “Grow old with me. The best is yet to come.” And it’s true. We don’t know how many more years we’ll have to be together on this earth, but heaven is our home and we’re excited about living there as friends together, with Jesus, eternally! All glory to God!

Happy 39th Anniversary, Wyatt! I love you more than you know.
